Finished Commercial Blog

Below is the finished commercial. I enjoyed learning to use the editing software. I was an entirely new experience for me. Going out to film was also enjoyable. I had also never used a camera to film a serious project like this. My biggest problem during filming was learning how to hold the camera. My fingers got in the way of the shot until I was able to hold the camera correctly. Finding music the fit the theme well also proved surprisingly difficult. All in all, an interesting, new experience.

Today on 10/12/21, editing was finished. The process was difficult. Me and my group had no video editing experience among us. Therefore, we needed to familiarize ourselves with editing. This took a short while, but was worth the effort. I could use Clipchamp, the software recommended by my teacher, relatively well. Editing took a total of an hour across the two days we edited. After it was done, me and my group reviewed the commercial. The transitions needed work because they weren't smooth enough. I made sure the transitions lined up more closely with their intended effect. I also took a Gatorade logo and did the final transition. This was the transition from a closeup of the subject drinking Gatorade which faded into the logo. The logo used is pictured down below. Making the fade transition match commercial conventions was surprisingly difficult. These conventions were simple: a closeup of the bottle that was either resting or in use, transitioning into a screen with the logo. I

After me and my group were done filming the commercial the previous class, editing began. Since the commercial couldn't be a single continuous shot, editing was required. This is because my commercial has the subject running up stairs, requiring cuts . As the subject ascends the first flight of stairs, there is no editing required. Same applies to the second flight of stairs. This is because I, the cameraman, am positioned specifically so the subject can run up the both flights of stairs without minimal editing. Then, we had the subject drink Gatorade in a close-up shot. Right afterwards, the subject runs up two more flights of stairs. This is in the form of a tracking shot. Little to no editing is required here, either, because it is a continual shot too. My group and I had also filmed a similar tracking shot on our first day of filming. It would be the same thing as the first shot. Where I am positioned so that I don't have to move while filming. Then subject runs up the th

This class, on 10/6/21, editing would've began. However, the commercial was less than 30 seconds long. Me and my group had to go out filming again. We didn't expect to need props so the group was forced to buy a Gatorade from a vending machine. Me and my group then returned to the staircase we had filmed at previously. I set up for filming. Shots were done over, improving them. More shots were added, such as a tracking shot. This increased the expected duration of the commercial to about 30 seconds. The previously mentioned tracking shot was a big help in meeting this requirement, as it was the longest shot the group had. General filming included the subject running up the stairs, faster after drinking Gatorade, and a retake of the closeup of the subject drinking Gatorade. After this was done, My group and I returned to class. Filming took less time today because we knew what and where to film. Only about 25-30 minutes. In class, I went over footage as my brother left to as

Today, on 10/4/2021, my group filmed our commercial. Me and my group didn't have our storyboard complete though. It took us about 15 minutes to finish it, allowing us to go film. As our storyboard says, the group originally intended to make a Gatorade commercial using a soccer ball, field, and goal. This didn't work out, however. There were no soccer goals on campus, despite there being a field and the group bringing a soccer ball. My group and I had to improvise, walking around campus searching for a good place to film our backup plan (This was to have the subject run stairs whilst drinking Gatorade). I was the cameraman, and filming took about 40 minutes. I proposed multiple shots, only some of which were filmed. The shots included a high angle, closeup, and tracking shot. The majority of them will not make it into the commercial, as our group will edit the best ones together. I filmed the subject running slowly, then drinking Gatorade. Me and my group then shot one of t
